About Paronella Park
Paronella Park – A Dream Brought to Life
Not everyone achieves their dreams, but José Paronella turned his vision into reality. His dream was to build a castle, and in the heart of Far North Queensland, he created Paronella Park, an enchanting destination that has captivated visitors since it opened to the public in 1935.
Set on five hectares beside the picturesque Mena Creek Falls, Paronella Park features a remarkable castle, picnic areas by the falls, tennis courts, bridges, a tunnel, and lush gardens with over 7,500 tropical plants and trees, now a vibrant rainforest.
A Legacy of Innovation and Recognition
Paronella Park is not only a testament to José’s dream but also a site of historical significance:
• Home to Queensland’s first privately owned hydroelectric plant.
• Listed on State and National Heritage registers and recognised by the National Trust.
• Winner of multiple Queensland tourism awards.
• Eco-accredited and privately owned and operated.
